Colour, Layer, Pattern

  • Lunenburg School of the Arts 6 Prince Street, P.O. Box 610 Lunenburg, Nova Scotia (map)

Learn how to create colourful and expressive surfaces on clay with instructor Adero Willard, through demonstrations and hands-on practice, working with a variety of techniques that include slip trail, resist techniques, sgraffito, and inlay (there is no use of decal). You will learn how to create intricate surfaces applying slips and underglazes to leather hard clay rather than glaze-on-bisqueware. This workshop will cover practical as well as conceptual topics, such as hand building, altering wheel-thrown forms, integrating form with surface, and refining one's own personal aesthetic. Any clay can be used, but a dark clay body is recommended.
