CanIRON X

  • Cape Breton Blacksmiths Associations 368 Shore Rd Baddeck, NS, B0E 1B0 Canada

The Cape Breton Blacksmiths Association (CBBA) will be hosting the next national artist-blacksmithing conference, CanIRON X, on Cape Breton Island, July 2- 5th, 2015. The biennial conference moves across Canada from the West Coast to the East Coast bringing together blacksmiths from the far reaches of the country and abroad. 2015 is Canada’s Craft Year and CanIRON X is going to raise the flag high for the blacksmithing craft. This event we will inspire blacksmiths across the country and the world with what can be achieved in the craft, and raise public awareness of the vibrancy of blacksmithing in Canada.

Prolific and acclaimed metal sculptor Albert Paley of Rochester, NY, will be giving a two-day lecture on design during the conference, while a line-up of prominent blacksmiths from the U.S., Canada, and Europe demonstrate and teach techniques and methods of forging metal.

This event is not just for people who are practicing blacksmiths. It will inspire artists and designers of all media, anyone with an involvement or interest in metal, and those who are totally unfamiliar with the craft. Artists will be showcasing pieces of ironwork in a gallery showcase, there will be a youth-led component for young smiths, a vendors section, great musical entertainment and plenty of forging. This is all, of course, in addition to the outstanding headlining blacksmith demonstrations, lessons and lectures planned.

July/juillet 2-5, 2015
