Join us for Sticks to Sticks, a jewellery exhibition by Caitlyn Purcell from June 4 until June 24, 2015 in the Main Gallery at Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design.
In German, 'sticks to sticks' describes the notion of one thing leading to another then another until you've forgotten where you began. Caitlyn became infatuated with this while working in the studio of German jeweller Tasso Mattar in Spain this winter.
The jewellery in this exhibition explore how feelings and pre-conceived ideas shift in a relatively short amount of time - how you can enter a situation feeling one way and exit feeling completely differently.
Caitlyn Purcell's jewellery explores an interpretation of Cape Breton culture; the wonder and difficulties of everyday life. Simple compositions embody her analysis of the world around her. She pairs beach-combed castings with precious stones and metals to make pieces that are at once messy, jagged and crisp.
