Craft and the Environment: Artist Talks with Kelly Ruth and Jessica Hodgson

  • Manitoba Craft Museum and Library 1B - 183 Kennedy Street Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 1S6 Canada (map)

On Thursday, April 23, 2015, the Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library invites the public to join us from 7:00-8:30 pm for Craft and the Environment: Artist Talks with Kelly Ruth and Jessica Hodgson. Ruth and Hodgson will each discuss how the environment has influenced their artistic practice.

Kelly Ruth is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Winnipeg, MB. Ruth spent over a decade working as the dyer/painter for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet but left the position to focus on her own artistic practice. Her most recent body of work, a series of tea cozies, memorializes the earth and celebrates traditions of cultures that date back before ‘progress.’

Jessica Hodgson is a ceramic artist and painter based in Winnipeg, MB. Hodgson received her BFA from the University of Manitoba and has exhibited works across Canada. Having grown up on a farm on the prairies, Hodgson was raised with a fundamental respect for the environment. After moving to Winnipeg in 2006, she was surprised at how quickly she lost this sense of respect. Hodgson explores these themes in her artistic practice.
