The Annual Conference of the Ontario Hooking Craft Guild (OHCG), now in its 49th year, is held in a different location around Ontario each year, with a different theme. London has chosen "Graffiti" as its theme and is presenting workshops, a dynamic rug display and the chance for the widely dispersed members to get together. On Sunday the 19th, the exhibit of traditionally hand-hooked rugs and hooked items created by nearly 1000 members of the Ontario Hooking Craft Guild is open to the public (for a fee). From the "primitive" to the "painterly" style, with impressionism, abstraction, folk/naif, colonial and any other style you care to name in-between, you will see colour, style and expression that will blow you away. Rughooking is a fairly simple technique to master but can be taken in many directions and levels of complexity. There are over 65 OHCG qualified teachers around the province and 65 branches full of helpful rughookers, so it's easy to start!
Rug Show: Sunday April 19, 10am to 3pm
The fee to visit the hooked rug show on Sunday is $10 per person. If you come early enough, you will get a complimentary copy of the OHCG newsletter (value: $7.50)... available until they run out. It is a 36-40 page glossy quarterly magazine, full of rug photos, helpful information, news and articles about traditional rughooking, OHCG teachers & rughookers.
