Featuring an abundance of texture and rich, saturated colors, this exhibit is a warm feast for the eyes. 23 New Brunswick artists of the Fibre Arts Network (FAN) have combined their talents to bring us this stunning exhibition, highlighting the diversity and creativity of fibre artists in our region. Included are the works of Kimberly Bent, Jacqueline Bourque, Jodi Braine, Charline Collette, Jasmine Cull, Sylvette Fortin, Mary Grant, Vicki Gustafson, Trish Hirschkorn, Marie-Pierre Kroetsch, Karen LeBlanc, Rachel MacGillivray, Anna Mathis, Kathleen McConnell, Alison Murphy, Vita Plume, Caroline Simpson, Kathy Thornhill, Kathy Tidswell, Anna Torma, Lucas Woolley and Sabine Wieczorak.
FAN is an eclectic network of fibre artists. FAN began as a Fredericton based organization but now comprises members from across the province. The membership includes weavers (evolving from an organization once called the Fredericton Designer Weavers), spinners, dyers, felters, knitters (hand and machine), crocheters, quilters and rug hookers, among other fibre media. Some members do many of these things while others concentrate on one or two. Some FAN members work in the field but many do not, and some have craft education, while many are self-taught. FAN meets monthly in Fredericton and welcomes new members any time. They also love to visit fibre animals (sheep, Alpaca, Highland cows, goats...), fibre artists’ studios and purchase or exchange yarns!
FAN joins forces to sell their work together at fall Christmas sales each year in Fredericton, collaborate for exhibitions such as this one, and host workshops in different fibre media. They love all things fibre and are enthusiastic about teaching their crafts and learning together.
