Buried is how artist Lyn Fabio describes her feelings at this time of year – buried under the kilos of berries she has picked, the ongoing bubbling of pots of jam, and the piles of leaves gathered for eco-printing. Yet in these she also finds a rewarding sense of satisfaction, born of long hours spent picking in the invigorating boreal air and the filling of the pantry.
In BERRIED, Fabio incorporates these elements directly into her works of hand-stitched fibre through the use of boiled berry pulp, left over from jams and jellies, and berry leaves to obtain a plethora of seasonal colours, both rich and subdued. Pieces in fibre and gut also incorporate realistic and abstracted images of berries.
A reflection of the joys of the harvest and a celebration of berries, BERRIED will resonate with seasoned pickers, art enthusiasts, fibre artists, and anyone who enjoys the simple pleasures of homemade jam.
Exhibition runs from November 6-28, 2015
Opening Reception: Friday, November 6, 5-7pm
